We must be:

  • Able to admit our mistakes and learn from them
  • Aware that even smart people can do very dumb things
  • Responsible, for our own actions and those of our group
  • The best we can be
  • Respectful of legitimate authority; resistant to unjust authority

We would add for emphasis in teaching our children: "It is not the mistakes we make, it is what we can learn from them that matters most."
