The United States itself, Mexico, Indochina, India, Algeria, The Belgian Congo and numerous other places taught "Old Europe" that you cannot win colonial wars. But that is exactly what we Americans are now trying to do in Iraq.
Iraq was to be an outpost in Islam--an outpost representing our "values," as questionable as the Neocon variety may be.
There are those who recognize that we are now pinned down in a war we cannot win. And there are those who realize that we are a nation captured by self-styled warriors who have their own private agendas to deliver to Corporate Chieftains, Plutocrats, powerful special interest groups such as the Neocons, and Evangelicals alike. The saddest recognition of all is that so many Americans beat the drums for even more of the latter.
Blowing in the Wind
- How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
Yes, 'n' how many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, 'n' how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, 'n' how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, 'n' how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
How many years can a mountain exist
Before it's washed to the sea?
Yes, 'n' how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
Yes, 'n' how many times can a man turn his head,
Pretending he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
Bob Dylan has more wisdom than the Bush Administration. And Dylan himself is far from a perfect person. People love him, not for being perfect, but for the way he makes them feel about themselves when they are around him.
